Q & A with Dr. Howard Crisp

1. What drew you to medicine?

I’ve always had a scientific mindset and a desire to directly improve the lives of others. A career in medicine was a natural fit. With Allergy and Immunology, in particular, I have the ability to combine a patient’s history and testing results to help investigate not only the cause of his or her symptoms, but also to find and employ the most effective treatments.

2. What are your passions outside of work?

As a new Dallas resident, I really enjoy exploring the area to experience new restaurants, find new trails, and visit attractions I’ve never had the opportunity to see before.

3. Who would you consider to be your role model and why?

My parents, both Navy officers, have always been great role models for me. They have epitomized the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

4. What do you like to do to relax?

My wife and I enjoy taking our dog Leila on long walks along the Katy Trail or around White Rock Lake. We enjoy travelling to Virginia and California to see our families. I also enjoy a wide variety of board and video games.

5. What makes North Texas Allergy and Asthma Associates special in your opinion?

Above all else, North Texas Allergy and Asthma Associates always take a patient-centered approach to find the best course of action. No two patients are the same and we continually strive to find the best course of action in line with the medical evidence, the individual patient’s condition, and their personal values.

6. What do you enjoy most about being a doctor?

The best part of being a doctor is being able to directly and concretely see the positive impact I have in patients’ lives. It is very rewarding to help patients with food allergies or asthma stay out of the hospital and to enable patients with nose and eye allergies to return to all the outdoor activities they enjoy throughout the year.

7. What is the best advice you have ever received?

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

8. If you could have a conversation with any person or character who would it be and why?

Isaac Newton. With his amazing ability to mathematically describe the natural laws using the limited equipment of his time, it would be something to see what he might be able to do with today’s technology.
